Frankenpets are bizarre creatures who comprises either two, or three animals species. These include the Bearded Shion (bearded dragon, great white shark, lion), Gorooba (gorilla, goose, zebra) and Bisquito (bison, squid, mosquito). You get the idea.
How did these monstrosities even come to be? That’s a mystery we’re saving for a later date. For now, the stories themselves share the personal journeys of these creatures, as they endure hope and loss, wonder and terror, searching for their place in a world they were never meant for.
Inspired by classic and contemporary animations
The art direction of Frankenpets is inspired by both classic and contemporary animated film, with the single most noticeable influence on the art being old-school rotoscoping. Each of our characters are animated in a 3D environment, with their performances later traced over and illustrated frame by frame, combining the nuance and finder details of both live action and hand drawn animation.
The overall ambition of Frankenpets, is to create an original series of child-like (but mature) fantasies that combine elements of both new and old animated cinema, into something with a sense of relevance and nostalgia, while being distinguishable in its own right.
